One of my favorite stopping sites when visiting Misty Fjords National Monument, New Eddystone Rock is a 237-foot tall basaltic tower formed in the last five million years from lava flowing repeatedly from cracks in the floor of the East Behm Canal. I have found deer bones on the beach here, an indication that deer swim across the canal regularly. A local legend has it that someone once shot a moose on New Eddystone Rock. It's a good mile swim to the nearest shore.
